8 Energy Efficiency Study of Zyryanovsk Power Network

Implementation of Energy Efficiency Improvement Measures in Zyryanovsk Power Network, Kazakhstan

The project considers implementation of energy efficiency improvement measures in KAZZINC power transmission network in Zyryanovsk District, in Kazahstan. Scope of work included analysis of losses in the power transmission and distribution network, i.e. substations and connecting power lines, with an aim to identify optimal solution for reduction of power losses and increase the overall power system efficiency, as well as its reliability. The analysis has also addressed the higher order harmonics and technical solutions proposed to reduce their impact on the Zyryanovsk Power Network. Measures were proposed so as to enable technical norms defined by the relevant Standards and Codes, as well as regulatory requirements in electrical grids of individual entrepreneurs and legal entities in the Republic of Kazakhstan, to be met. In addition, measures proposed enabled also:

  • reduction of voltage drop in long lines;
  • reduction of electrical burden on electrical components providing extended equipment life;
  • additional capacity (kVA) available from the existing supply for potential future consumers;

Investment costs and financial benefits of proposed actions were assessed in detail and explained in economic feasibility analysis report.
