Project Management for Water Security Mega Reservoirs Project, Qatar

The project entails construction of five potable water mega reservoirs sites and interconnecting network of large diameter water pipelines. Each reservoirs site will ultimately comprise up to nine reservoirs, each of which will be the largest of their type in the world.
Mega reservoirs and pumping stations will be constructed at five strategic locations along the Qatar National Utility Corridor. First phase of the project, which is currently under implementation, will deliver storage capacity of about 2,300 million gallons of water in 24 huge concrete reservoirs and some 480km of buried ductile iron pipelines with diameter up to 1.6m.
The project comprises the following principle new elements which will integrate with the existing supply, transmission and storage system:

Total storage volume:

  • First Phase: 2,300 MIG (approx. 10 million m3) in 24 concrete reservoirs
  • Second Phase: 3,800 MIG (approx. 17 million m3) in 40 concrete reservoirs

Storage per each PRPS:

  • 4-5 reservoirs per PRPS in the first phase with ultimately 7-9 reservoirs per PRPS after the second phase
  • Reservoirs dimensions and capacity: 300x150x12 m and 86-97 MIG

Pumps capacities:

  • Per single pump: 0.4-1.85 m3/s (1500-6650 m3/h)
  • Per PRPS: max. 6.5 m3/s (23000 m3/h)

DI pipelines to be constructed in the first phase:

  • Corridor Mains: 280 km (DN 1200-1600)
  • Transmission Pipelines: 200 km (DN 900-1600)SCADA and corresponding telecommunication system
The project holds the Guinness World Record for the largest drinking water storage tank, awarded to Kahramaa on 25 January 2020.
