In 2016, Qatar Petrochemical Company Plant in Mesaieed [QAPCO] network experienced a power failure. The fault originated from the interconnected neighboring company (QVC) with the flashover of a transformer terminal and resulted in cascading power failure in QAPCO electrical network with the damage of five transformers (bushing flashover & winding damages). The power failure is a repeated incident for QAPCO electrical network and similar incidents happened in 2013 & 2014 with the fault originated from the QVC electrical network.
In order to eliminate the recurrence of such fault incidents and further review the network configuration/studies, QAPCO engaged Energoprojekt ENTEL to perform network study and analysis and to conduct an audit on QAPCO-QVC-QATOFIN Electrical Networks. ENTEL conducted the audit based on the existing network configuration, previous studies and subsequent modifications of QAPCO-QVC-QATOFIN power system. As part of the audit, EPE reviewed the network configuration/installations, verified & validated previous network studies, investigated the cause of repeated network failures and verified the stability of the electrical network under normal & abnormal/fault conditions.
In addition to the detailed site survey conducted, the above described works included the following studies and analyses:
